Deliveroo, the on-demand delivery service for high-quality restaurant meals, has launched in Newport - the company’s 100th city.

More than 50 jobs will be created for local people in Newport over the course of the first year, with the majority of these being Deliveroo riders, who aim to deliver food, which will be cooked, fresh to order and delivered from the restaurant kitchen to the customers’ door within 30 minutes.

More than 15 restaurants have signed up to the service, meaning the hungry residents of Newport can now get their favourite food from their most loved local restaurants including Friars Walk's Chiquito, Wagamama, Mission Burrito, Zizzi, Prezzo, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Las Iguanas.

Last year, Deliveroo unveiled its new visual identity, logo and rider equipment that enhances riders’ safety and style through a brightly coloured, hyper-reflective kit, as well as a new logo, which aims to become a shorthand for great food delivered anywhere.

Caroline Hazlehurst, General Manager at Deliveroo, said: “We’re extremely excited to be launching in Newport and we’re looking forward to bringing some of the town’s delicious dishes straight from the hands of local chefs to customers’ doors.

“Our new riders in Newport are now kitted out in their new hyper-reflective kit and locals can order from the fantastic variety of restaurants in Newport, whatever they want, whenever they want, all from the comfort of their own home, office desk or wherever else hunger strikes.

“We already have a number of great partners across the town and we are excited to expand and widen the variety of restaurants on offer to our customers in Newport over the course of the next year.”

Simon Pullen, Centre Director for Friars Walk said “It’s great news that Deliveroo are coming to Newport and with seven of our popular restaurants involved, we look forward to being part of something so innovative in the city.”

Deliveroo is focused on providing the ultimate food delivery experience. Customers have the option to schedule orders via the Deliveroo app up to one day in advance or receive food as soon as possible between 12 noon and 11pm, from a variety of leading local, independent and high-quality chain restaurants, conveniently delivered to their homes and offices in an average of 30 minutes.

Get the whole family involved the weekend of the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon by signing up for the new Friars Walk Family Fun Run

Perfectly suited to all ages and abilities, the 2.km route uses the wonderful riverfront pathways in the City Centre.

St David’s Hospice Care, organisers of the popular event, is encouraging families and children to take part in the two kilometre run along river front pathways on Saturday, March 4, the day before the half marathon.

Simon Pullen, Centre Director for Friars Walk who are supporting the family run, said: “We are delighted to support St David’s for the Friars Walk Family Fun Run.

"It’s the first time for this event to take place and it is a great opportunity for children and families to participate in this fun run, hopefully they will develop a taste for running and participate in the half marathon in the future.”

Registration is open for the family fun run, which starts at 2pm.

Christine Vorres, event director, said: “We have considered adding a family element to the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon for a long time, so are really thrilled that Friars Walk are helping us to host the fun run.

“Thanks to their support, all proceeds will be used to provide hospice services when and where they are needed.

“We hope that families will come along, maybe in fancy dress or St David’s Day Daffodil hats and enjoy participating.”
